How to choose: baby car seats

1

Start with your child's size

Car seats are sold by height and weight ranges, such as i-Size (R129) by height or older R44 groups by weight. Check the range on each product and pick one that suits your child now and for a good while ahead.

2

Check it fits your car

ISOFIX seats clip into fixing points, and others use the seat belt. Look at the manufacturer's vehicle-fit information and make sure you can fit the seat correctly every time.

3

Consider convenience features

Rotating seats make loading easier, infant carriers click onto some pushchairs, and boosters are light and easy to move between cars. Weigh these against budget and space.

4

Use it correctly

Fit the seat exactly as the instructions say, adjust the harness or belt for every journey, and never use a seat that has been in an accident.

Baby Car Seats: common questions

What is the difference between i-Size and R44 seats?

i-Size (R129) seats are chosen by your child's height, while R44 seats are grouped by weight. Both can be used in the UK, so check which standard a seat is listed for.

How long can my child use a booster seat?

Boosters have a listed height and weight range. Check the range on the product and the rules for your area.

Can I buy a used car seat?

We only sell new seats. We do not recommend using a second-hand seat if you do not know its history.
